WHAT IS EMORY GROVE?

Emory Grove is an historic Methodist Camp Meeting Ground that has held religious services every summer since its beginning in 1868. The grounds consist of 47 cottages with a year-round caretaker, an open-air Tabernacle, and a Hotel, which is no longer used for lodging. The cottages are privately owned, many being handed down over several generations in some families. The Tabernacle is said to have been a farmer's market from Hanover, PA, moved to its present site in the 1880s. The Hotel, built in 1887, is the only one of three left standing. It is used for receptions and meetings throughout the summer months. The Temple, built in 1909, originally held children's church school classes. It is now a recreation area for children. Emory Grove was once a thriving Christian community with thousands of people attending week-long services. Over the years, it has developed into a summer get-away that provides a peaceful setting to commune with nature and walk with God. The worship services on Sundays and the Hymn Sings on Wednesdays are free and open to the public.

WORSHIP SERVICES

Every Sunday in July and August brings a different worship experience to the open-air Tabernacle at Emory Grove. Each week a different local church comes to Emory Grove and leads worship surrounded by nature. Services are held at 7:00pm and are open to the public. Light refreshments are served during fellowship time after the service.

HYMN SINGS

Every year since 1975 Hymn Sings have been held on Wednesday evenings in July and August in the open-air Tabernacle at Emory Grove. Begun by Rev. George Lovell as a way to praise the Lord in the middle of the week, Hymn Sings continue to bring Grovers and friends together to sing hymns. Each week also brings a special musical guest who shares his/her talent by performing 2-4 pieces during the Hymn Sing. As many as 20 hymns may be sung on any given evening. Light refreshments are served during fellowship time after the Hymn Sing each week. The last Wednesday of August is the Hymn Sing Party in the historic Emory Grove Hotel where we celebrate the end of another wonderful season of Hymn Sings at Emory Grove.

All are welcome!

Worship Services and Hymns Sings take place rain or shine at 7:00pm.
